A few kilometres from the WWF Bosco di Rocconi nature reserve, near the village of Semproniano, along the road leading from there to Saturnia, the Maremma Wildlife Rescue Centre was established in 1997. This centre, now called Animanatura Wild Sanctuary, is home to many animals that have arrived for various reasons. There are wild animals that needed care; animals from experimental laboratories (but never used for that purpose); animals seized from circuses or imported illegally; and finally wolf hybrids (crossbreeds between wolves and dogs), captured as part of the Ibriwolf project.
So don’t be surprised to see a dromedary in the field next to the road you are travelling on or to hear a roar echoing through the valley.
We have an agreement to visit the centre: for information, please call +39 0564 1886 329.
