Casetta Tartuchino

In the hills of the Tuscan Maremma

Between Maremma and Amiata, sea and mountains

La Casetta Tartuchino is a farm house overlooking the hills of the Tuscan Maremma.

Perhaps you have already stayed with us when we were an agriturismo and would like to return. We are no longer an agriturismo, but we can now be a true home for you, to be enjoyed independently; it will be your own bucolic and peaceful home on the Maremma hills.

Set in a panoramic position that enhances the sense of space, Casetta Tartuchino can welcome you together with your friends or family. The house is ideal for 6 guests, with a maximum capacity of 8.

The house

It is a small stone farmhouse, completely renovated in 2012 and furnished in country style, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a fireplace. You can dine under the furnished patio with outdoor furniture or in the garden, where there are large tables.

The surroundings

You will be surrounded by the hills of the Maremma, with an extremely low population density: you will forget the light and noise pollution of the city and enjoy the views and the silence of the countryside. You can check our location for yourself on the Light Pollution Map

This area is called Tartuchino after the turtles that have found a perfect habitat here. It is a truly biodiversity-rich area: there are wild orchids and even some rather rare animals, such as stone curlews. Nearby there is a raptor center that has developed and is following interesting conservation projects, as well as the Maremma Wildlife Rescue Center, where animals in need of care are brought, along with animals of unusual origin, including large carnivores.

We are one hour from the coast and one hour from the summit of Mount Amiata. You can relax in the warm sulfur springs of Saturnia, just 12 km away; dive into the past by visiting Roman and Etruscan remains; stroll through the atmosphere of medieval villages; explore the trails; and enjoy the culinary traditions of the Maremma.

If you have a few extra days, it is worth heading to the coast for a swim at Cala Violina or Marina di Alberese, or taking a hike on Mount Labbro to discover the story of Davide Lazzaretti, the Prophet of the Maremma, or enjoying a walk through the beech forests of Mount Amiata.

The "Podere"

Rita also runs a farm at the Tartuchino, on the opposite side of the road.

Ask Rita, who will be happy to tell you about her work on the farm, where she follows organic farming standards, with particular attention to saving water, an increasingly precious resource. The farm produces organic extra-virgin olive oil and jams, with a very high percentage of fruit grown on the property and without industrial additives.

Rita and her collaborators are grateful and fully aware of how fortunate they are to live in such a biodiversity-rich area. For this reason, they strive to reduce their impact as much as possible, both in farming and in hospitality, so that these hills may retain their unspoiled charm.

From the olive grove, which in spring is a spectacle of blossoms, the view stretches as far as Monte Argentario. If you wish, you can include in your destinations the scenic viewpoint created among the olive trees, with a table and seating, perfect for relaxing and reading a good book.
